1886 McLoughlin Bros. "Game of Base-Ball"
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,251.50
Before the turn of the century, McLoughlin Brothers was renowned for producing the highest quality games of all types, including several different baseball board games. McLoughlin Brothers "Game of Base-Ball" is one of the rarest and most highly prized of all nineteenth-century baseball board games. In addition to the spectacular graphics of its cover, this is the only McLoughlin baseball game with metal baseball figures. The game includes all nine of the meticulously painted metal baseball figures (only one is missing its metal base, otherwise averaging strong Vg-Ex, with just normal wear and chipping to the paint), as well as the very sturdy folding game board (Ex-Mt), both spinners (each Vg-Ex due to normal use and complete with its spin needle). Even the instruction booklet (Vg, with foxing and a number of small tears), and one of the two original scorecards (scored, Vg) are included! The sturdy game box (Vg) shows general wear, including some chipping along the border area of the cover, none of which detracts from the splendid illustrated images of the pitcher or the spectacular game-in-progress scene. The box is of high-quality pressed cardboard and wood construction, and measures 17 x 9-1/2 x 2 inches. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,251.50
