1885 Buffalo Bisons (vs. Chicago White Stockings) Scorecard with Anson, Kelly, Brouthers
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $711.00
Two-page fold-over scorecard for an 1885 National League game between the Chicago White Stockings and Buffalo Bisons at Buffalo. This scorecard was issued compliments of the Wisconsin Central Line and the cover features the railroad line's logo and the printed date "Friday, September 4th, 1885." These early scorecards represent an extraordinary value for nineteenth-century collectors. It is remarkable to even think that this program recorded a game boasting so many of the era's greatest stars. The preprinted lineups include Cap Anson, Mike “King” Kelly, George Gore, Fred Pfeffer, Tom Burns, Ned Williamson, and Billy Sunday for Chicago, and Dan Brouthers, Hardy Richardson, and Deacon White for Buffalo. The scorecard has not been scored; however, research indicates that the White Stockings defeated the Bisons 12-4 on September 4, 1885. The scorecard (4.25 x 5.25 inches; folded) displays only general light wear. Excellent to Mint condition. Disclosure per section 13 of REA's terms and conditions: This lot has been consigned from the personal collection of an executive or employee of Robert Edward Auctions (or a relative of an executive or employee).
