1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Ed Delahanty
Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $23,700.00
Extremely rare card of Hall of Famer Ed Delahanty from the legendary E107 Breisch-Williams series. Delahanty is certainly one of the key cards in the E107 set. In addition to being one of baseball's greatest stars, this is also his final card, issued the very year of his untimely and tragic death. On July 2, 1903, Delahanty, on his way from Detroit to New York, fell to his death off a bridge near Niagara Falls, after being put off the train by the conductor for being drunk and disorderly. This example has been graded SGC POOR 10. Very attractive front with even rounding of the corners, slight staining present, and light wrinkling in the upper left corner and along the bottom border. Multiple areas of paper loss on the reverse show evidence of mounting in a scrapbook at one time and account for the low technical grade while leaving most of the important Type 1 printing intact. This is a very significant card, both as a rare type card, and as an E107 Hall of Famer. This E107 Delahanty example has never before been seen in the modern collecting world or at auction. It was purchased by our consignor at a card convention twenty years ago, and it has remained in his possession ever since. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $23,700.00
