500 Home Run Club Signed Bat and Ball (2)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,666.25
Only twenty-five players in baseball history have hit 500 or more home runs. This collection features a bat and ball signed by seventeen and sixteen members, respectively, of that exclusive club. 1) 500 Home Run Cub Signed Bat: Rawlings Adirondack P302 bat signed in blue Sharpie by the following seventeen members of the 500 Home Run Club: Mantle, William, Mays, Aaron, McCovey, Robinson, Banks, Jackson, Killebrew, Mathews, Schmidt, Sheffield, Thome, Griffey Jr., Palmeiro, Thomas, and Rodriguez. This bat originates from one of the early 1980s 500 Home Run Club signing shows, as it bears a metal plaque on the barrel listing the eleven then-living members of the club: Mantle, Williams, Aaron, Mays, Robinson, Jackson, Schmidt, Killebrew, McCovey, Banks, and Mathews. The signatures of each of those eleven players grade "8" overall, while the signatures of the six most recent members grade "10." The bat (34 inches) displays two small blemishes near the base of the handle and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. 2) 500 Home Run Club Signed Ball: Official National League (White) ball signed in blue ink by the following sixteen members of the 500 Home Run Club: Mantle (sweet spot), Williams (sweet spot), Robinson, Sheffield, Griffey Jr., Schmidt, Jackson, Thomas, Banks, Killebrew, Mathews, Palmeiro, McCovey, Mays, Aaron, and Rodriguez. Like the bat, this ball originated from an early 500 Home Run Club show and was periodically updated as new players entered the club. A thin coating of white paint or similar material appears to have been applied to a small portion of the sweet spot (extends into the east panel) prior to the ball having been signed. A portion of both the Mantle signature and the Griffey Jr. signature are written upon that area (very unobtrusive and barely noticeable except upon close inspection). All of the signatures grade "9" or "10," with the exception of Griffey Jr. ("7"). The ball displays three small, light areas of age toning and is otherwise in Near Mint condition, with note taken of the applied substance on the sweet spot. Total: 2 items (bat and ball). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,666.25
