1976 Baseball Awards Dinner Ticket Signed by Thurman Munson
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,303.50
Admission ticket to the Annual Awards Dinner presented by the Warren Township Baseball Association, held on November 5, 1976, signed by Thurman Munson. The legendary Yankee captain has flawlessly signed the ticket in blue Sharpie on the reverse, with the signature grading "10." As noted on the front of the ticket, the awards dinner, which was held at the Martinsville Inn in Martinsville, New Jersey, promised a "Prominent Guest Speaker." To the delight of all of the kids in attendance that night, our consignor included, the speaker was none other than Yankees captain and reigning American League MVP Thurman Munson. Although Munson was notorious for his refusal to sign autographs, in settings such as these he was usually left with no choice but to oblige his young fans. Our consignor was one of the lucky kids in attendance that night to obtain Munson's signature on the back of his ticket and it has been in his personal possession since that time. Munson's disdain for signing autographs, combined with his tragic death in 1979, has resulted in the scarcity of his signature today, making this ticket a true prize for both autograph and Yankee collectors. The ticket (4 x 2.5 inches) displays moderate creasing throughout and a few small areas of light discoloration on the reverse. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,303.50
