Hall of Fame Single-Signed Ball Collection - Each Personally Inscribed to President Richard Nixon!

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $13,035.00

This extraordinary collection of forty-two Hall of Fame single-signed balls originates from the personal collection of former United States President Richard Nixon, and were purchased by our consignor in 2004 when the President's signed-baseball collection was sold at auction. That special provenance is inherently provided by the fact that each player has personally inscribed the ball "To President Richard Nixon" or a slightly abbreviated form of that salutation. Many have also added a few other sentiments, including "best wishes," "lots of luck," or "to a true fan." Because of the lengthy inscriptions, most players have chosen to inscribe the side panel, or have written the salutation on a side panel and then signed it across the sweet spot. The Hall of Fame signers represented here are Aparicio, Appling, Banks, Barlick, Bench, Boudreau, Brock, Carew, Chandler (Chandler was obviously old and in poor health at the time he signed this ball; as a result, both his signature and inscription are substandard), Conlan, Dandridge, Doerr, Drysdale, Feller, Ferrell, Gomez, Herman, Hunter, Irvin, Jenkins, Kaline, Kell, Killebrew, Lemon, Leonard, Lopez, Marichal, Mathews, McCovey, Morgan, Musial, Palmer, Perry, Roberts, B. Robinson, F. Robinson, Schoendienst, Sewell, Slaughter, Snider, Spahn, and Stargell. The signatures have all been penned in blue ink and grade either "9" or "10." All of the balls are either official American or National League balls and date from the 1980s or early 1990s (Nixon died in 1994). Most of the balls display varying degrees of light age toning, otherwise all remain in Near Mint condition. As noted, this collection was originally purchased by our consignor at public auction in 2004. At that time the collection was comprised of forty-eight balls and it realized a final sales price of $13,497. This is both a remarkable and highly significant Hall of Fame single-signed baseball collection that was personally assembled and enjoyed by Richard Nixon, 37th President of the United States and lifelong baseball fan. Total: 42 signed balls. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $13,035.00
