Roger Maris 1961 Complete "Home-Run Victims" Signed Baseball-Card Collection Plus Maris Signed Photo (47 items)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,133.00
This unique collection features signed baseball cards of all forty-six pitchers who served up one or more of Roger Maris' sixty-one home runs in 1961. It also includes a signed magazine photo of Maris, which would make the perfect centerpiece for a framed display if one should choose to mount the photo and cards together. This is an outstanding collection that has been assembled with great care by a very dedicated pioneer memorabilia collector. Ideally, all of the signed cards are 1961 Topps cards with the following three exceptions: Norm Bass (1962 Topps; personalized "To Charlie"), Warren Hacker (1958 Topps), and Ed Palmquist (real-photo postcard; personalized "To Scotty"). The players represented here, with the number in parentheses noting what number home run (or home runs) they allowed to Maris in 1961, are Hank Aguirre (53), Jim Archer (25), Norm Bass (27), Frank Baumann (37), Gary Bell (6 and 22), Pete Burnside (4, 29, and 42), Jerry Casale (24; personalized "To Charles"), Tom Cheney (54), Gene Conley (8 and 10), Bennie Daniels (44), Dick Donovan (43), Chuck Estrada (7), Jack Fisher (60), Mike Fornieles (11), Terry Fox (58), Paul Foytack (1), Frank Funk (32), Mudcat Grant (56), Eli Grba (3 and 19), Warren Hacker (40), Ray Herbert (18 and 35), Johnny James (20), Russ Kemmerer (15 and 39), Johnny Klippstein (30), Marty Kutyna (45), Don Larsen (38), Frank Lary (31, 52, and 57), Ken McBride (50), Cal McLish (9 and 13), Bill Monbouquette (33 and 36), Don Mossi (23), Billy Muffett (12), Joe Nuxhall (26), Ed Palmquist (16), Milt Pappas (59), Camilo Pascual (41), Jim Perry (5, 21, and 49), Billy Pierce (47 and 48), Juan Pizarro (46), Pedro Ramos (2 and 17), Bob Shaw (14), Dave Sisler (28), Tracy Stallard (61), Dick Stigman (55), Jerry Walker (51), and Early Wynn (34). All of the cards have been signed on the front (in a variety of inks), with the signatures grading "9" or "10." The cards range from Gd to Ex-Mt, averaging Vg-Ex. The magazine photo (8.5 x 11 inches) has been flawlessly signed by Maris in black marker (grading "10") and is in Excellent to Mint condition.
