Jesse Haines Single-Signed Ball

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,258.75

Official National League (Giles) ball signed by Hall of Fame pitcher Jesse Haines. Haines has scripted his name in blue ink across the sweet spot, with the signature grading "9/10." Haines passed away in 1978, well before the signing-show boom of the 1980s, and only eight years after his induction into the Hall of Fame. Those two factors have resulted in the scarcity of Haines single-signed balls today. This is the first example we have ever offered, and we cannot recall having seen more than a few others over the years. Another distinguishing feature of this ball is that it dates from the 1958-1969 manufacturing period, which means it was very likely (or at least very possibly) signed by Haines prior to his induction into the Hall of Fame in 1970. The ball displays light soiling, as well as a few minor abrasions, the largest of which are located on the south panel below Haines' signature. All of the manufacturer's stampings remain legible. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
