Two 1951 New York Yankees Large-Format Multisigned Photos
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $711.00
Two large-format (14 x 11 inches) 1951 New York Yankee photos, each signed in vintage blue fountain pen by the respective players pictured. Both photos picture the players dressed in their road uniforms as they pose together in the Yankees clubhouse. The first photo has been signed by Joe DiMaggio (grading "9"), Yogi Berra (black fountain pen, "9"), Johnny Mize ("6"), and Gil McDougald ("8"). The second features the signatures of Phil Rizzuto ("7"), Ed Lopat ("9/10," preceded by "Best Wishes"), and Gil McDougald ("8"). DiMaggio and McDougald only played together in 1951, positively dating the first photo. It is assumed the second photo was taken at the same time. While we are not sure when in 1951 these photos were taken, the players' jubilant nature suggests a significant victory, possibly a World Series Game. The Yankees won both Games 4 and 5 of the 1951 World Series against the New York Giants on the "road" at the Polo Grounds. The visible area of the first photo displays a number of light creases throughout, as well as a number of minor tears, mainly along border areas. In Very Good condition overall. The second photo displays a few slight creases throughout and is in apparent Very Good to Excellent condition. Both photos have been matted and framed to total dimensions of 20 x 17 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $711.00
