1959 Los Angeles Dodgers World Champions Team-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $356
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-seven members of the 1959 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers: Alston (Mgr., sweet spot), Koufax, Drysdale, Snider, Reese (coach, clubhouse signature), Dressen (coach, sweet spot, clubhouse signature), Hodges, Zimmer, Pignatano, Klippstein, Gilliam, Roseboro, Craig, Furillo, Fowler, McDevitt, Repulski, Wills, Podres, Moon, Lillis, Fairly, Mulleavy (coach), Neal, Labine, Larker, and Williams. Signatures range from "2" to "8," averaging "6/7." The signatures of both Moon and Lillis appear to have been enhanced. The number "7" (Charlie Dressen's uniform number in 1959) is written in vintage blue ink on a side panel. (It was common practice at the time for clubhouse personnel to write the uniform number of the player for whom the ball was being signed on one of the side panels in order to keep track of each player's allotment.) 1959 marked the Dodgers' fifth pennant of the decade. However, even more important, it also marked the club's first World Championship in Los Angeles, thereby making this one of the most significant and desirable of all Dodgers team-signed balls. 1959 Dodgers team-signed balls are rare and much scarcer than other World Championship team-signed balls from this era. The ball displays a few scattered areas of moderate toning and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $356
