1954 Philadelphia Athletics Signed Reunion Photo - Foxx, Grove, Cochrane, and Simmons
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,185
Most likely reminiscing about their glory days of years past, this delightful original Associated Press photo captures former Philadelphia A's teammates Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochrane, and Al Simmons posing for the cameras prior to a special Hall of Fame game in 1954. Each player has signed the photo in black fountain pen atop his respective image. Foxx's signature is the strongest of the four, grading "9," while the remaining three grade "7/8." The original paper news caption, which accompanies the photo, reads in part: "Four members of the pennant-winning 1929-1931 Philadelphia Athletics indulge in horseplay as they test the muscles of their slugging first baseman Jimmy Foxx in dressing room at Yankee Stadium in New York before start of a special Hall of Fame game on August 14." This is a very substantial and very likely unique signed photograph. The photo (8 x 6.5 inches) is in Near Mint condition and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 15.5 x 13.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,185
