1951 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Ball with Robinson and Campanella
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,185
Official National League (Frick) ball signed in black ink by the following twenty-five members of the 1951 Brooklyn Dodgers: Robinson, Campanella, Reese, Williams, Hodges, Terwilliger, Haugstad, Newcombe, Podbielan, Roe, Erskine, Dressen (Mgr., sweet spot), Palica, Cox, Abrams, Thompson, Walker, Furillo, Bridges, King, Branca, Schmitz, Pafko, H. Edwards, and Bankhead. The black-ink notation "Dodgers '51" appears on a side panel. Signatures range from "6" to "9," averaging "7/8." This ball originates for the collection of Reverend Richard McKelvey, who was an early hobby pioneer in the field of autograph collecting. McKelvey was known for obtaining most of the autographs in his collection in person. This ball was probably no exception and is notable for the absence of any "clubhouse" signatures, which are commonly found on Dodgers balls from this era. The ball is coated with a light layer of protective shellac and is in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,185
