1950 Ty Cobb Signed Check
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,541
Ty Cobb personal check, dated July 20, 1950, signed in blue ink (grading "9/10") by “Tyrus R. Cobb.” The check, drawn on the First National Bank of Nevada, features Ty Cobb’s preprinted name along the left front border and has been made out to “Scott Motor Co.” in the amount of $82.02. While there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made literally hundreds of checks available after his passing, in exchange for a donation to the Cobb Educational Foundation, a charity that helps underprivileged children), a Cobb check is always a classic, and this is a particularly outstanding example. The check (8 x 3 inches) has standard bank cancellation stamps and perforations, and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Mounted (by means of photo corners) and framed together with a recent print of Cobb. Total dimension: 15.5 x 18.75 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,541
