1934 American League All-Star Team-Signed Ball with Ruth and Gehrig

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,133

Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in black fountain pen by the following seventeen members of the 1934 American League All-Star team: Babe Ruth (sweet spot, "1/2"), Lou Gehrig ("3/4"), Jimmie Foxx, Red Ruffing, Al Simmons, Joe Cronin, Earl Averill, Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez, Rick Ferrell, Jack Russell, Jimmie Dykes, Sam West, Al Schacht, Mel Harder, Ben Chapman, and Pinky Higgins. Signatures range from "1" to "5," averaging "2." Despite the light signatures, this remains a very rare team-signed ball commemorating the second All-Star Game played at the Polo Grounds in New York. It was in that game that Carl Hubbell made history by striking out, in succession, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin; all of whom have signed this ball. The game also marked Ruth's second and final All-Star Game appearance. The ball has been coated with a layer of protective shellac, which displays a few minor chips and/or abrasions. In Good to Very Good condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,133
