Circa 1928 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,888
DeBeer Anchor-Brand "Professional" baseball, signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. A baseball signed by Ruth and Gehrig is one of the true "gems" of the hobby. The offered example features Ruth's signature resting upon its customary place of honor, the sweet spot. Gehrig's signature is located on the panel directly above. Ruth's signature has been penned in blue fountain pen and grades "6/7." Gehrig's signature, scripted in black fountain pen, is somewhat stronger, grading a solid "8." The ball is lightly soiled and has a few minor abrasions and tiny areas of discoloration that do not affect the visual appeal afforded by the two signatures. Ideally, the placement of the signatures is close enough that they can both be viewed at the same time when the ball is properly displayed. According to the original owner, this ball was signed by the duo during a barnstorming tour in Syracuse, New York. If so, it was probably signed in 1928 during the famed "Bustin' Babes Larrupin' Lou's" postseason tour. This is an exceptional example of the most desirable of all dual-signed baseballs, beautifully displaying the signatures of the most legendary "one-two" punch in baseball history. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,888
