1887-1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet Collection (2)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $4,444
Two N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet cards. An attractive pair of these extremely substantial nineteenth-century rarities: 1) Charles Ferguson, Philadelphia (#157-2 pose). 1887 copyright. This card has scattered indentations, and light corner and edge wear. There is also the number "#173" written in pencil and some paper loss on the reverse. 2) Arlie Latham, St. Louis (#274-3 pose). 1888 copyright. Small spot of paper loss on the right edge of the photo, and also with a few small spots of surface curling (primarily at the top between his bat and head, and also below his left foot). Two pieces of framing tape on the reverse. Old Judge cabinet cards have always been revered by collectors as among the most desirable of all pre-1900 issues. Technically modest in grade but still very attractive pair of these substantial cards from one of card collecting’s most important early issues. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
