1950 Enos Slaughter Signed St. Louis Cardinals Contract
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $8,888
Four-page fold-over contract, dated November 15, 1949, between Enos Slaughter and the St. Louis National Baseball Club, Inc., signed in blue fountain pen by "Enos Slaughter" (grading "9") and "Fred Saigh" ("8") as president. Also signed in blue ink by Ford Frick ("9") as National League President. The one-year contract, for the 1950 season, calls for Slaughter to receive a salary of $25,000. Slaughter batted .290 with 10 home runs and 101 RBI in 1950. A ten-time All-Star, he retired in 1959 with 169 home runs, 1,304 RBI, and a .300 lifetime average. Slaughter was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985. 104 of Hall of Fame players are rare and the offered example is no exception. This is the first Slaughter contract we have ever offered and we can recall having seen only two others at public auction. The contract (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal folds and a few light creases. In Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $8,888
