1910 T209 Contentnea First Series Complete Set (16)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,148

Extremely rare complete sixteen-card set of 1910 T209 Contentnea First Series cards. This is a very attractive low- to mid-grade set of these extremely striking 1910-era tobacco cards featuring players from the Virginia League, Carolina Association, and Eastern League. Condition composite: six cards are Vg: Armstrong, Cowell, Fullenwider, Martin, Pope, and Stubbe; six cards grade Good: Booles (factory rubber stamp "Factory No. 12, 4th Dist. N.C." on the reverse), Bourquise, Cooper (factory rubber stamp "Factory No. 12, 4th Dist. N.C." on the reverse), Crockett (factory rubber stamp "Factory No. 12, 4th Dist. N.C." on the reverse), Hoffman (factory rubber stamp "Factory No. 12, 4th Dist. N.C." on the reverse), and Sisson; four cards technically grade Fair or Fr-Gd but in most cases have a far superior appearance (all are still very nice looking cards): Gilmore, Lane, McGeehan, and Walsh. Don't be fooled by the low technical grades. This is a great-looking set! Every card is bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, and flawless registration. T209 Contentnea First Series cards are rarely offered as a complete set, and are highly prized by both minor-league collectors and tobacco-card collectors. From the Joe Pelaez Collection. Total: 16 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,148
