1962 Topps Near-Complete Set (587 of 598)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,740

95% Ex to Nr/Mt-Mt (averaging Ex-Mt), 10% slightly lesser. This is a tremendous, uncommonly high-grade near-complete set of 1962 Topps. Missing only eleven cards for completion (#30 Mathews, 53 Maris/Mantle LL, and 67-75). The 1962 Topps set has a well-deserved reputation for being the era's most condition-sensitive issue. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of 1962 Topps makes cards from this set particularly susceptible to wear. This set has a crisp, pack-fresh appearance. Thirteen cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (and one by GAI). Keys: #1 Maris (PSA EX-MT 6), 5 Koufax (PSA NM 7), 10 Clemente (PSA EX-MT 6), 18 Mantle/Mays (Ex), 25 Banks (Ex), 45 Robinson (Nr/Mt), 50 Musial (PSA NM 7), 57 AL Win LL (PSA NM-MT 8), 100 Spahn (Ex-Mt), 139 Babe Hits 60 (Ex), 140 Ruth/Gehrig (Ex), 150 Kaline (Vg-Ex), 199 Perry RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 200 Mantle (PSA NM 7), 218 Torre RC (Ex-Mt), 234 WS Game 3 Maris Wins (PSA EX-MT 6), 251 Yankees (Ex), 300 Mays (Vg-Ex), 310 Ford (Nr/Mt), 313 Maris IA (Vg), 318 Mantle IA (Vg-Ex/Ex), 320 Aaron (Nr/Mt), 340 Drysdale (Ex), 350 Robinson (PSA EX-MT 6), 360 Berra (Ex-Mt), 387 Brock RC (Ex), 394 Aaron AS (Ex), 395 Mays AS (PSA NM-MT 8), 401 Maris/Cepeda (GAI NM 7), 425 Yastrzemski (PSA EX-MT 6), 471 Mantle AS (Ex), 500 Snider (PSA EX-MT 6), 530 Gibson SP (Ex-Mt), 537 Indians team (PSA NM-MT 8), 544 McCovey SP (Ex), 545 Wilhelm SP (Ex-Mt), 575 Schoendienst SP (Vg), 584 Twins SP (Ex), 591 McDowell RC (Nr/Mt-Mt), 592 Bouton RC (Ex-Mt), 594 Uecker RC (Ex-Mt), 596 Pepitone RC (Vg-Ex), and 598 Hickman (Ex). This is an extremely impressive 1962 Topps set, far superior to the average set offered of this very condition-sensitive issue. The SMR value for just the the thirteen PSA graded cards (not including the 574 ungraded cards!) is $1,668. Total: 587 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $4,740
