1960 Topps Uncut Advertising Panel
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $2,370
Extremely rare eight-card advertising panel for the 1960 Topps baseball series featuring cards #5 Moon, 14 Grant, 21 Dotterer, 38 Casale, 48 Smith, 52 Philley, 82 Gomez, and 96 Terry on the front and a blank-back. The advertising in the center reads "New Topps Baseball Cards Are Here! For many years (beginning in 1952 and continuing well into the 1960s), uncut advertising panels were distributed by Topps to grocers and candy-store owners for the purpose of announcing and providing samples of the new cards being offered. Almost all were three-card panels, but the unusual style of this 1960 advertising sample sheet with eight cards is a rare (actually unique) exception (1960 is the only year for which we have ever seen an eight-card advertising panel style). Because of their method of issue and purpose, all Topps advertising panels are rare. We have seen only three examples of this 1960 Topps advertising rarity during the past forty years. Some type of wear or printing flaw affects Jim Grant's card. Very Good condition. Dimensions: 7 x 10.5 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
