1953 Topps Complete Set (274)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,259
80% range in grade from Vg to Ex (with a few Ex-Mt), 20% grade Gd to Gd-Vg (includes a few slightly lesser). This is a very attractive mid-grade complete set of the classic 1953 Topps series. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. The cards are classic, they look great, and they don't cost a fortune compared to higher-grade cards. In many cases, in the highest grades, a few commons from an early 1950s set can be valued at more than an entire set such as this, and when it comes time to selling, a set such as this will actually generate far more interest by collectors as well, precisely because it is more affordable. Four cards are graded by SGC (all submitted by REA) and one card is graded by PSA. Keys: # 1 Robinson (SGC VG 40), 10 Burgess SP (Vg), 27 Campanella (Vg-Ex), 37 Mathews (Vg-Ex), 41 Slaughter (Vg-Ex), 54 Feller (Ex), 61 Wynn SP (Ex), 62 Irvin (Vg), 76 Reese (Gd), 77 Mize (Fr-Gd), 78 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 81 Black SP (Vg-Ex/Ex), 82 Mantle (SGC VG 40), 86 Martin (Gd-Vg), 87 Lopat (Vg), 104 Berra (Gd), 114 Rizzuto (PSA EX-MT 6), 119 Sain SP (Pr), 138 Kell (Vg-Ex), 147 Spahn (Vg), 149 DiMaggio (Gd-Vg), 151 Wilhelm (Gd), 162 Kluszewski (Vg), 191 Kiner (Gd), 207 Ford (Vg), 220 Paige (SGC VG 40), 228 Newhouser (Fr), 244 Mays (SGC GOOD 30), 246 Face (Vg-Ex), 254 Roe (Ex), 258 Gilliam SP (Ex), 263 Podres SP (Fr), 265 Jensen SP (Gd), 273 Haddix SP (Gd), 280 Bolling (Fr-Gd). This is a beautiful and relatively affordable mid-grade complete set of one of card collecting's most popular issues. Total: 274 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $3,259
