1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle Rookie - PSA EX-MT 6
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,333
Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Exceptionally attractive example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular and significant of all postwar baseball cards. This is a striking example, with four square corners with just the slightest hint of wear, vibrant colors, and 25/75 centering top to bottom. The slightest hint of being out of registration (due to colors not being perfectly aligned) is a natural printing flaw as made. Clean front and back, with no distracting print lines as is so commonly found with this card. The back is also perfectly clean, with no wax wrapper or gum stains, which are often a problem with 1951 Bowmans. This is a very sharp and crisp example (which heralds from a collection assembled in the 1970s that has not seen the light of day until now) in Ex-Mt condition of one of the collecting world's most desirable and significant cards. SMR value is $5,000. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
