1948 Bowman Complete PSA-Graded Set Minus Three (45 of 48)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,259

The 1948 Bowman set is an extremely significant landmark issue of the postwar era, literally launching a new era of bubble-gum card collecting. Key rookie cards of many stars and Hall of Famers highlight Bowman's first baseball-card issue. This is an exceptionally attractive mid- to high-grade complete set minus three cards (missing #19 Henrich, 26, and 30 Lockman). All the cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (all have been personally submitted to PSA over the past couple years by our consignor, now 87 years old, who collected back in the 1970s). PSA Condition Report: One NM-MT 8: #23. Eight NM 7: #2 Blackwell, 7 Reiser SP, 9, 12 Sain RC, 13, 20, 29 Page RC, and 34. One EX-MT+ 6.5: #1 Elliot RC. Sixteen EX-MT 6: #3 Kiner RC, 6 Berra RC, 8 Rizzuto RC, 11, 14 Reynolds RC, 15, 16, 24, 27, 28, 31, 32, 35 Stirnweiss RC, 38 Schoendienst, 41(OC), and 48. Two EX+ 5.5: #25 and 39. Fourteen EX 5: #5 Feller, 10, 17 Slaughter, 18 Spahn RC, 21 Fain RC, 22, 33, 36 Musial RC (MC), 40 Marion RC, 42, 43, 45 Sauer, 46, and 47 Thomson RC. Two VG-EX 4: #37 and 44. One VG 3: #4 Mize. Beautiful set (minus three cards) of this significant postwar issue with many condition highlights. The SMR value for just forty of the graded cards (not including the two qualified cards including Musial's rookie and the three cards graded less than EX 5) is $2,446. Total: 45 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
