1947 W571 "Homogenized" Bond Bread Complete Baseball Set (44)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,422
Complete set of forty-four baseball subjects from 1947 W571 "Homogenized" Bond Bread series, highlighted by several Hall of Famers including Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, and Ted Williams. W571 is a fascinating vintage set which includes many great stars and which has received very little attention. The black-and-white cards (2.5 x 3.5 inches) from this set were issued with rounded corners and blank backs. Twenty-two of the forty-four cards (50%) in the set are graded and encapsulated by SGC. The SGC grades are as follows: Three NM/MT+ 92: Musial (HOF), Stephens, and Vandermeer. Seven NM/MT 88: Jones, Kerr, Lindell, Mize (HOF), Pesky, Reese (HOF), and Rizzuto (HOF). Four NM+ 86: Blackwell, Doerr (HOF), Hodges, and J. Robinson (HOF). Three NM 84: C. Gordon, Jansen, and Kiner (HOF). Two EX/NM 80: Boudreau (HOF) and J. DiMaggio (HOF). Three EX 60: Feller (HOF), J. Gordon (HOF), and T. Williams (HOF). The balance of the cards are in slightly lesser grades, averaging Vg-Ex overall (with the exception of Berra, grading Pr). This is a very clean, impressive, great group of cards, which includes a particularly high concentration of Hall of Famers, and very strong examples of Joe DiMaggio and Stan Musial, and one of the most overlooked and significant (due to its year of issue) of all Jackie Robinson cards. Total: 44 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,422
