1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,851
Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. An attractive example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards: #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. Incredibly, this card has been consigned directly by the original owner, now 87 years old, who purchased this card as a youngster when it was issued in 1933 and has saved it ever since (along with the rest of his 1933 Goudeys, all of which are presented in this auction). The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. This is a very attractive card, bright and clean, with even wear to all four corners (corners are slightly rounded), and virtually perfect registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this particular card). We grade this card very slightly more conservatively than PSA due to a few indentations and a small surface abrasion on the reverse. This is a very attractive original-owner example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. SMR value in assigned grade is $3,300. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,851
