1887 N172 Old Judge Dan Brouthers
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $830
Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. 1887 N172 Old Judge card of Hall of Famer Dan Brouthers (#43-2) with Detroit posed in front of an elaborate studio backdrop. This is a magnificent card with an extremely strong photo quality, very well centered, with just a little light wear on the corners. The reverse has glue residue in the center and a piece of clear tape at the top, which is, of course, very common with Old Judges and is solely responsible for its harsh technical grade. It is otherwise in Excellent condition. This card is one of the highlights from a larger collection of N172 cards, which we have broken down into several smaller lots in the auction. Brouthers was a five-time batting champion who led the National League in slugging percentage each of his first six full seasons, and is one of the most prominent of all nineteenth-century Hall of Famers. This is a very attractive example of Hall of Famer "Big Dan" Brouthers from the nineteenth century's most revered set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++.
