1912 T202 Hassan Triple Folders Collection (32), Including Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,259

This newly discovered original-owner collection of thirty-two assorted 1912 T202 Triple Folders includes twenty-nine different cards plus three duplicates. The collection includes Ty Cobb, two Walter Johnsons, Cy Young, plus eight additional Hall of Famers. These cards are part of a very substantial collection of 1910-era cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The cards range from Good to Vg-Ex as detailed in the condition composite. In the following condition composite, identifying card numbers are referenced from the numbers provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. Condition composite (32 cards): Vg-Ex to Ex (2 cards): #43 Delahanty/Jones and 109 Schulte/Sheckard. Vg (24 cards): #2 Pelty/Wallace (HOF), 5 Bergen/Rucker, 6 Blair/Quinn, 10 Birmingham/Turner, 34 Payne/Walsh (HOF), 42 Daubert/Hummel, 51 Dooin/Magee, 73 Dahlen/Scanlan, 77 Delahanty/Jones, 81 Becker/Devore, 83 Marquard/Meyers (HOF), 86 Murray/Snodgrass, 88 Johnson/Knight (HOF), 90 Kling/Young (HOF), 92 Kling/Steinfeldt, 96 McConnell/McIntyre, 100 McBride/Milan, 104 Chase/Wolter, 108 Austin/Stovall, 109 Schulte/Sheckard, 112 Ford/Vaughn, 116 Brown/Graham (HOF), 130 Cobb/Moriarty (HOF), and 132 Dahlen/Wheat (HOF). Gd to Gd-Vg (6 cards): #16 Chance/Foxen (HOF), 23 Gibson/Phillippe, 42 Daubert/Hummel, 61 Chance/Evers (HOF), 88 Johnson/Knight (HOF), and 115 Baker/Barry (HOF). This is a very attractive collection, with most cards (as is often the case with T202s) appearing far superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. This is an outstanding foundation for the assembly of a beautiful set of T202 Hassan Triple Folders, arguably the most interesting and beautiful baseball tobacco issue ever produced. Total: 32 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,259
