1912 T202 Hassan Triple Folders SGC Graded Collection (47) Including Cobb and Mathewson
Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $4,444
Sharp-looking collection of forty-seven (44 different representing 33% of the set) T202 Hassan Triple Folders, one of the most classic of all tobacco issues, highlighted by eighteen Hall of Famers, including Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson (2), Walter Johnson (2), Tris Speaker, Joe Tinker, Frank Baker, John Evers, and others. The cards have all been graded and encapsulated by SGC. T202s often look far superior to their SGC grades as they are downgraded due to extremely small technical flaws natural to the issue. In the following condition composite, identifying card numbers are referenced from the numbers provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. Consists of the following: Seven EX 60: #1 Wallace/LaPorte (HOF), 15 Bresnahan/Harmon (HOF), 24 Egan/Mitchell, 72 Lennox/Tinker (HOF), 91 Mattern/Kling, 93 Lobert/Dooin, and 119 Hoblitzel/Egan. Fourteen VG/EX 50: #4 Barger/Bergen, 44 Mathewson/Devlin - Giants (HOF), 51 Magee/Dooin, 66 Vaughn/Ford, 69 Hoblitzel/Grant, 88 Knight/Johnson (HOF), 94 Lord/Tannehill (possible Joe Jackson center panel), 99 Lord/Oldring, 101 McBride/Griffith (HOF), 105 Miller/Clarke (HOF), 107 Speaker/Engle (HOF), 110 Huggins/Evans (HOF), 120 Birmingham/Turner, and 121 McLean/Fromme. Twelve VG 40: #16 Chance/Foxen (HOF), 18 Overall/Archer, 20 Shean/Chance (HOF), 32 Kling/Bridwell, 33 Ball/Stovall, 77 Jones/Delehanty, 93 Lobert/Dooin, 95 Richie/Needham, 96 McIntyre/McConnell, 105 Miller/Clarke (HOF), 111 Groom/Gray, and 115 Baker/Barry (HOF). Nine GOOD 30: #5 Rucker/Bergen, 28 Leifield/Gibson, 29 Paskert/Magee, 35 White/Payne, 68 Cobb/Moriarty (HOF), 92 Steinfeldt/Kling, 110 Huggins/Evans (HOF), 113 Sweeney/Ford, and 114 Raymond/Latham. Three FAIR 20: #9 Johnson/Street (HOF), 75 Tannehill/Lord, and 82 Mathewson/Fletcher (HOF). Two POOR 10: #61 Evers/Chance (HOF) and 63 Reulbach/Archer. These cards have been graded harshly, as is the standard for T202s. This is a very bright, clean, attractive group, that could provide a significant foundation for or make a major contribution to the assembly of a very high-quality set. This is an exceptionally strong high-quality selection of arguably the most interesting and beautiful baseball tobacco issue ever produced. The equivalent SMR value for the group is $6,379. Total: 47 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $4,444
