1911-1914 D304 Brunners Bread Honus Wagner

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,518

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Presented is one of the key Hall of Famers from the extremely rare 25-card D304 Brunners Butter Krust brand bread (General Baking Co.) series: Honus Wagner. This is a stunning card! It is also one of Wagner's rarest, most unusual, and striking vintage cards. Issued by a bakery in the Buffalo, New York, area, these cards are known with five different back styles (Brunners, Butter Krust, General Baking Co., Weber Bakery, and Martens Bakery). Similar in design to tobacco and candy cards of the era, Brunners measure slightly larger than T206s, at 1.75 x 2.5 inches, and while not “on the radar” of most collectors, are actually considerably rarer than most 1910-era “E” and “T” card issues. The fronts feature very attractive full-color illustrations, each of which is unique to this issue. This is a very sharp-looking card! Bright and clean, centered just a hint to the bottom right, with brilliant colors, flawless registration, and four square corners. A few barely noticeable surface wrinkles are responsible for this card not grading higher. This is a magnificent example of one of Wagner's most striking cards from this rare prewar food issue. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
