1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life SGC-Graded Collection (28 including 13 Hall of Famers!)

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $5,629

Collection of twenty-seven different cards (plus one duplicate, for a total of 28 cards) from the 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life set, highlighted by thirteen Hall of Famers, including Christy Mathewson and Tris Speaker. All twenty-eight cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC: One NM 84: Wallace (HOF). Ten EX/NM 80: Barry, Bender (HOF, pastel), E. Collins (HOF, pastel), Crawford (HOF, pastel), Huggins (HOF), Schulte, two Waddell (blue and black backs), Walsh (HOF), and Wood (rare "Over 300 Subjects" back). One EX+ 70: Bell. Seven EX 60: Doyle (pastel), Griffith (HOF, unusual black-and-white variation), Hartsel, Hofman, McInnes (rare "Over 300 Subjects" back), Scanlon, and Speaker (HOF, rare "Over 300 Subjects" back). Seven VG/EX 50: Atkins (rare "Over 300 Subjects" back), Baker (HOF), Chase (pastel), Eagan, Mathewson (HOF, pastel, rare "Over 300 Subjects" back), Oldring, and Thomas (pastel). Two VG 40: Duffy (HOF) and Summers (black back). Each card is bright and clean both front and back, and with boldly printed reverses. Many collectors consider M116 to represent one of the era's most exceptional values. Despite being so similar in design to, and far rarer than, their T206 counterparts, price guides assign substantially lower values to them. This is a very impressive-looking group with most cards having an appearance superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value for the group is $6,608. Accompanying the cards is an original Sporting Life envelope/wrapper for Series #50. Total: 28 cards and one envelope. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $5,629
