1910 Plow Boy Tobacco Chick Gandil

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,778

Outstanding example of "Black Sox" member Chick Gandil from this unusual sepia-toned 1910 cabinet-card issue which features Cubs and White Sox players, issued by the Spaulding & Merrick Tobacco Company to promote its Plow Boy Tobacco brand. Their rarity is related to the fact that they were issued only in the Chicago area. Plow Boy Tobacco cards measure 5-3/4” x 8.” They are easily one of the rarest of all Twentieth-Century tobacco issues, and of additional note, these cards show players in poses that are unique to this set. This is certainly one of Gandil's rarest and most substantial cards. Graded POOR 10 by SGC. The modest technical grade, however, is due to a small amount of surface paper loss and some scrapbook paper attached to the reverse; it is otherwise in very strong Vg-Ex condition. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,778
