1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb - Bat On Shoulder

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,896

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive mid-grade example of this classic tobacco card of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb. This card was one of the many highlights from a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The T206 Ty Cobb bat-on-shoulder pose is one of the key cards in the set and the second most valuable of the four Ty Cobb cards in the T206 series. The offered example has vibrant colors, flawless registration, and snow-white borders. This is a very sharp-looking card, extremely clean both front and back, with four square corners displaying very light, even wear, and perfectly centered. A tiny surface wrinkle on the right border is solely responsible for this card not grading higher. The Sweet Caporal reverse has sharp red printing. This is a very attractive example, bordering on Excellent condition, of one of the key cards of Ty Cobb from the most popular set of the era. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
