1909-1911 T206 Hall of Fame PSA VG-EX 4 Collection Including Mathewson and Young (25)

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,703

Collection of twenty-five T206 Hall of Famers from the T206 White Borders series, highlighted by two Christy Mathewson and two Cy Young cards. All twenty-five cards are different. All are graded and encapsulated VG-EX 4 (except five VG-EX+ 4.5) by PSA (all have been personally submitted to PSA over the past couple years by our consignor, now 87 years old, who collected back in the 1970s). All have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal backs unless otherwise noted: 1) Bresnahan - port. (Sovereign back); 2) Brown - Cubs; 3) Chance - red (VG-EX+ 4.5); 4) Chesbro (MC); 5) Collins - Phila. (VG-EX+ 4.5); 6) Crawford - throw; 7) Davis - Chicago; 8) Evers - port.; 9) Evers - Cubs; 10) Flick; 11) Griffith - bat; 12) Huggins - at mouth; 13) Jennings - one hand; 14) Lajoie - port. (Sovereign 150 back); 15) Mathewson - port. (VG-EX+ 4.5); 16) Mathewson - white cap; 17) McGraw - no cap (Sovereign 150 back); 18) McGraw - cap; 19) Tinker - bat on; 20) Waddell - port. (VG-EX+ 4.5); 21) Waddell - throw (VG-EX+ 4.5, Sovereign 150 back); 22) Wheat; 23) Willis - bat; 24) Young - glove; and 25) Young - bare hand. The collection of twenty-five Hall of Famers (out of 76 in the set) represents 33% of all Hall of Famer cards in the entire T206 set. This is a very carefully assembled and impressive-looking group comprised exclusively of Hall of Famers, with most cards having an appearance superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. This lot is a tremendous opportunity for anyone building a quality T206 set, assembling a foundation collection of classic vintage Hall of Famers, or building a complete T206 Hall of Famer collection. The SMR value for the assigned grades (not including the one qualified card) is $7,215. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+. SOLD FOR $7,703
