1954 Topps "Scoop" Complete Set (156)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,370
5% Nr/Mt-Mt, 35% Nr/Mt, 40% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, 20% Vg (includes a few slightly lesser). This is an outstanding set of 1954 Topps "Scoops" in terms of condition, far better than normally seen in our experience. Issued in 1954, "Scoops" is one of the most highly regarded and popular of all postwar sets. Each of the 156 card fronts feature beautiful full-color illustrations of a great event in American history, accompanied by a miniature "newspaper headline" and story on the reverse. There are eleven cards related to sports figures in the set, including Babe Ruth. Keys: #3 Lindbergh Flies Atlantic (Ex-Mt), 27 Feller Strikeout King (Ex/Ex-Mt), 39 Dempsey Defeats Williard (Ex), 40 Louis New Champ (Ex), 41 Babe Ruth (Ex-Mt bordering on Nr/Mt), 65 Marciano KOs Walcott (Ex/Ex-Mt), 71 Sullivan Defeated (Ex/Ex-Mt), 110 Notre Dame's 4 Horsemen (Vg-Ex), 128 Owens Races Horse (Ex-Mt), 129 Hogan New Golf King (miscut no bottom border, otherwise Ex), 130 Braves Go To Milwaukee (Nr/Mt), and 154 26-Inning Tie Game (Vg-Ex). This classic nonsport set is filled with many great historical events. This is a particularly fresh, clean, sharp-looking set in very strong condition for this scarce, early Topps issue. Total: 156 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,370
