1909-1911 E91-C American Caramel Collection (39), Including Wagner and Johnson
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $20,145
1909-1911 E91-C American Caramel collection of thirty-nine cards (24 different of the 33 cards in the subset, plus fourteen duplicates, plus one card from the E91-B subset) including five Hall of Famers: Johnson, Wagner, Hooper, and two Willis. As is often the case with E91s, this collection is not in high grade. This group is part of an original "childhood" card collection, assembled in 1910, and saved by the daughter of the original owner. Approximately 50% range from Good to Vg in appearance, and approximately 50% range from Poor to Fr-Gd. This is still a very attractive collection of one of the most interesting and distinctive of all caramel card sets. The E91 set is sometimes referred to as the "fake design" set because the company used generic illustrations, rather than actual likenesses, of ballplayers. Thus, the exact same drawing (with team change on uniform) was used for two or three different players. This is an impressive low-to-medium grade collection of these unusual caramel cards, including a few Hall of Famers. Total: 39 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $20,145
