1936 R39 National Chicle "Dare Devils" Complete SGC-Graded Set (24)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,555

Rare and extremely attractive complete 1933 R39 "Dare Devils" set issued by National Chicle. All twenty-four cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). This is one of the finest of the very few "Dare Devils" sets we have ever offered. The SGC grades are as follows: One EX/NM 80: #6. One EX+ 70: #19. Seven EX 60: #5, 13, 15, 17, 20, 21, and 24 (last card in the set). Nine VG/EX 50: #1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 18, 22, and 23. Four VG 40: #4, 7, 10, and 16. One GOOD 30: #14. One FAIR 20: #11. This fascinating set features various "Death Defying Deeds in the Air," "Daring Deeds of Firemen and Policemen," "Famous Gangsters on the Spot," "Official G-Men Captures," "Wild West Dare Devils," and "Do-Or-Die Heroes." This is one of the truly great sets of the 1930s. The set has been consigned by an extremely advanced pioneer collector (who has long ago parted with most of his collection but held this set back as one of his all-time favorites). The exceptional artwork, brilliant colors, and controversial subject matter make the "Dare Devils" set one of the 1930s' most popular nonsport sets. Some cards are gruesome, some celebrate gangsters, others tell scary true-life stories involving danger, and even death. It's easy to see why kids would love "Dare Devils." What more could one ask from a bubble-gum card set? This is a magnificent mid- to high-grade complete set of one of the most classic of all 1930s nonsport issues. Total: 24 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $3,555
