1953 Dick Tracy Police Station with Squad Car in Original Box
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $296
Produced by Marx in 1953, this tin litho set offers everything a young Dick Tracy fan could want! Comprised of a police station and riot car, the toy's main feature is that the car will burst through the doors of the station and take off by itself in pursuit of the villains. That effect is brought about by the turning of a handle on the side of the station, which engages the wheels of the car and also sounds an alarm. The friction car features the barrel of a "machine gun" sticking out of the passenger-side front window that "fires" repeatedly as the car moves. Both the car and police station feature colorful graphics depicting Tracy and his squad members. The car is in Excellent condition, with the original instruction sticker still affixed to the roof. The plastic doors on the police station are slightly warped (common to nearly all examples) and the three window slats on the right door are broken. The station displays a number of light scratches and abrasions and is in Very Good condition. Unfortunately, the toy's main feature does not work, as the car will not exit the station on its own no matter how long one cranks the lever. Accompanied by its original box (9 x 6.5 x 4 inches), which displays a number of minor tears and abrasions. A piece of clear tape secures one of the end flaps. In Very Good condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $296
