Circa 1930s Disney Windup Toy Collection (7) with 1935 Lionel Mickey Mouse Circus Train
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,541
Highly desirable assortment of vintage Disney windup toys, featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pinocchio, and the Three Little Pigs. 1) 1935 Lionel #1536 Mickey Mouse Circus Train. The train is complete with the windup engine, Mickey Mouse stoker, and the three cars: "Mickey Mouse Circus," "Circus Dining Car," and "Mickey Mouse Band." This train was part of a much larger set that included the tracks, tent, large Mickey Mouse barker figure and assorted cardboard cutout pieces. All of those accessories, as well as the original box, are exceedingly rare and seldom seen today. The windup key for the engine is not present. The engine displays the greatest amount of wear, including a number of moderate scratches and abrasions. The remaining cars and stoker display wear commensurate with their age and former use, including minor scratches and abrasions. In Very Good condition overall. This is one of the most desirable toys from the 1930s, highly coveted by Disney, toy, and train collectors alike. 2-4) Three circa 1930s Disney "acrobat" windup toys. Each toy is in general working order, but needs a little assistance to help the bars fully rotate. The characters featured here, respectively, are Mickey and Minnie Mouse (15 inches high), Donald Duck (10 inches high), and the Three Little Pigs (11 inches high). The Mickey and Minnie figures display slightly pushed-in noses (common for this toy) and under black light all of the figures display varying degrees of modern restoration/repainting. In Very Good to Excellent appearance overall. The Mickey and Minnie Mouse toy is accompanied by its original box (6.5 x 13.5 x 2 inches), displaying a colorfully illustrated front label titled "Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse as Acrobats." Made in Japan and distributed in the United States by "Geo Borgfeldt & Co., New York." The box features the earliest known Walt Disney copyright. Very Good condition, with a number of minor tears, abrasions, and light staining. 5-6) Circa 1939 Pinocchio and Figaro tin litho windup toys with original box. Manufactured by Marx, with a 1939 Disney copyright on both the Pinocchio figure and box. Both are in working order and display wear commensurate with their age and former use. Very Good to Excellent condition overall. The box (9.5 x 7 x 3 inches) displays numerous tears, cardboard reinforcement at all four corner seams, and minor staining. Fair condition overall. 7) Mickey Mouse "Crazy Car" tin litho windup toy. Manufactured by Linemar. Very Good condition. 6 inches tall; 6 inches long. Total: 7 items (train set, 3 acrobat toys, Pinocchio, Figaro, and Mickey Mouse crazy car). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
