Extraordinary Original Enrich Torres Cover Painting for Vampirella #17 (June 1972)

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $5,925

Original oil-on-canvas painting by Enrich Torres used as the cover art for Vampirella #17, published in June 1972. The cover painting of Vampirella #17 is one of the great masterpieces of Warren art. This painting has never before been offered and has been locked away in a private collection since the 1990s. Of special historical note, this is the very first Vampirella cover painting by Enrich, and is literally the painting that launched Enrich's career as Vampirella's most celebrated cover artist. Enrich Torres is universally recognized as the master of Vampirella cover paintings. He is responsible for fifty-four of the cover paintings which appeared on the original 112 Vampirella issues (two paintings appeared on more than one issue). These covers are among the most important and widely recognized works in all of modern illustration art, and are largely responsible for the prominence, success, and popularity of the entire Vampirella line. Few artists were able to capture the horror of the Warren universe so effectively, or to have such a lasting impact on an entire genre. His vintage work is rare, especially ideal examples such as this, and is held in the highest esteem among collectors. Dimensions: 17 x 22.5 inches (image area). Matted and framed to total dimensions of 26.25 x 32 inches. Accompanied by the original magazine. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $5,925
