1931 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Prominent Golfers" (Large) #5 Bobby Jones - PSA NM-MT+ 8.5

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948

Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level by PSA, with just three cards graded higher. Stunning ultra high-grade example of Hall of Famer Bobby Jones from the 1931 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Prominent Golfers" large-variety series. Each card in the set features a caricature of a professional golfer with a detailed background, and the golfer's name along the bottom. Inscribed as "A Series of 12" on the reverse, this large-card variety of "Prominent Golfers" is extremely rare and compliments its 50-card smaller version of the same year. Most advanced collectors would agree that this larger-card variety is about 25 times as rare as the scarce smaller version. The card is perfectly centered, with four razor-sharp corners, bold colors, and flawless registration. This is an exceptionally high quality, high-grade example of this legendary Hall of Famer from one of the premier golf sets of the era. The SMR value for the NM-MT 8 grade is $1,000; there is no SMR value for the NM-MT+ 8.5 grade. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
