Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,541
Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level by PSA, with just two cards graded higher. One of golf -card collecting's most important cards: Outstanding ultra high-grade rookie card of the legendary Bobby Jones, considered by many to be the "Babe Ruth" of golf, from the popular 1926 Lambert & Butler "Who's Who In Sport" set. This 50-card multisport issue features only five golfers (Jones, Sweetser, Gourlay, Leitch, and Boomer). The set was produced by the England-based tobacco company Lambert & Butler. Cards from this set feature black-and-white photos of the greatest athletes of the day from their respective sport. Bobby Jones' greatest achievement was winning the "Grand Slam" of golf in 1930 (the Open Championship, the U.S. Open Championship, the United States Men's Amateur Golf Championship, and the British Amateur Championship). Pack-fresh gem, with outstanding photo contrast, and perfect centering. This card appears Mint; only the slightest minute hint of wear in the upper left corner keeps this card from being a PSA MINT 9. This is a incredibly crisp, high-grade example of Bobby Jones' rookie card from this extremely attractive 1920s multisport card issue. The SMR value for the NM-MT 8 grade is $1,250; there is no SMR value for the NM-MT+ 8.5 grade. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
