1901-1902 Ogden's Guinea Gold PSA-Graded Collection (20)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,422
Exceptional collection of twenty high-grade cards from the 1901 and 1902 Ogden's Guinea Gold sets, highlighted by golf legends Tom Morris, Harry Vardon, and J. H. Taylor, each graded and encapsulated by PSA. In addition to being among the earliest of all golf-card issues, the Ogden's Guinea Gold cards are considered by many serious collectors to be among the most difficult of all vintage golf-card issues to collect in high grade. Their black border design makes these cards extremely susceptible to damage. This is an extraordinary collection of these important and early golf-card rarities in high grade! 1) 1901 Ogden's Guinea Gold - Unnumbered Cards - Series of 18 (7 cards): Massey (I Base, EX-MT 6), Morris (I Base, EX 5), Vardon v. Braid (Vertical, EX+ 5.5), Vardon v. Braid (2 Golfers, NM 7, only one graded higher), Vardon v. Braid (4 No Spectators, EX 5), Vardon v. Braid (5 w/ Spectators Rt. and Back, EX 5), and Vardon v. Braid (5 w/ Spectators Right, EX-MT 6). 2) 1901 Ogden's Guinea Gold - Numbered Cards (7 cards): four #475 Taylor (three NM 7 and EX 5), 476 Vardon (VG-EX 4), 478 Hilton (EX-MT 6 mk), and 479 Braid (EX-MT 6). 3) 1902 Ogden's Limited - Tabs - General Interest "F" Series (2 cards): #241 Braid (VG-EX 4) and 244 Gray (GOOD 2). 4) 1902 Ogden's Limited - Tabs - General Interest "Plain Back" (4 cards): Morris (VG-EX 4), Pearson (VG-EX 4), Richardson (VG-EX+ 4.5), and Vardon v. Braid (Vardon Putting, VG 3). This is an outstanding collection for this issue, very carefully assembled by a serious golf-card collector. The SMR value for the group (not including the one VG 3 and one GOOD 2) is $2,790. Total: 20 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,422
