1954-1955 Topps Hockey Complete Set (60) with 43 PSA-Graded Cards
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,740
Offered is an exceptionally high-grade complete set of 1954-1955 Topps hockey cards, the first hockey set issued by Topps. This important set includes only 60 cards, and features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. This is one of the strongest high-grade sets of this popular 1950s hockey issue we have ever offered. Of the sixty cards in the set, forty-three (72%) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Included are four NM-MT 8s, one NM+ 7.5, eleven NM 7s, six EX-MT+ 6.5s, fifteen EX-MT 6s, two EX 5s, three VG-EX 4, and one VG 3. Beautiful and overall very high-grade set, especially for 1954-1955 Topps hockey! The PSA condition report is as follows: Four NM-MT 8: #16, 32, 38, and 52. One NM+ 7.5: #13. Eleven NM 7: #7, 15, 18 Mohns RC, 22, 29, 37 Henry, 42, 47, 48, 50, and 51 Lindsay. Six EX-MT+ 6.5: #3 Howell, 6, 12, 14, 26 Rollins, and 43. Fifteen EX-MT 6: #4, 9, 11 Bathgate, 20 Gadsby, 25 Flaman, 31, 34, 36, 39 Delvecchio, 40, 41 Stanley, 46, 53, 54, and 55. Two EX 5: #10 Worsley and 27 Pronovost. Three VG-EX 4: #8 Howe, 23, and 44. One VG 3: #58 Sawchuk. The balance of the cards grade as follows: fifteen cards range from Ex to Ex-Mt (with a few slightly better), two cards slightly lesser. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1954-1955 Topps Hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. A high-quality and very carefully assembled complete set of one of card collecting's most popular hockey issues. The SMR value for just the thirty-nine graded cards (not including the four cards graded less than EX 5 and the seventeen ungraded cards) is $3,075. Total: 60 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000.
