1957-1958 Topps Basketball Complete Set (80) with 52 PSA-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,148

Offered is an exceptionally high-grade complete set of 1957-1958 Topps basketball cards. This is Topps' first basketball set, and the only basketball set Topps issued during the 1950s. It apparently did not sell well as Topps did not follow up with another basketball set until 1969. The set includes the rookie cards of all of the major stars of the era. This is one of the strongest high-grade sets of this popular 1950s basketball issue we have ever offered. Of the eighty cards in the set, fifty-two (65%) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Included are ten NM-MT 8s, fifteen NM 7s, twenty-two EX-MT 6s, four EX 5s, and one VG-EX 4. Beautiful and overall very high-grade set, especially for 1957-1958 Topps basketball! The PSA condition report is as follows: Ten NM-MT 8: #5 Sharman RC (OC), 11, 15 Ramsey RC (OC), 35, 37 Hagan RC (OC), 43 Hundley RC (MC), 55 (OC), 71 Twyman RC (OC), 74 Leonard RC, and 76 (OC). Fifteen NM 7: #4 Braun (OC), 9, 10 Arizin RC (OC), 14, 17 Cousy RC (MC), 19 Heinsohn RC (MC), 26 Shue RC (MC), 27 Macauley RC (OC), 28 Mikkelsen RC, 29 Naulls RC (MC), 33 Costello RC (OC), 45, 51 Selvy RC (MC), 57, and 58. Twenty-two EX-MT 6: #2 Yardley RC, 3 Johnston RC, 12 Martin RC, 13 Schayes RC (MC), 16 McGuire RC, 22, 30, 34, 39 Loscutoff RC, 42 Stokes RC, 44 Gola RC, 48 Rosenbluth RC, 53, 54, 59 Bianchi RC, 61, 62 Gallatin RC, 66, 73 Paxson RC (MC), 75 Phillip, 77 Russell RC, and 78 Lovellette RC. Four EX 5: #24 Pettit RC, 32 Kerr RC, 67, and 80 Schnittker RC. One VG-EX 4: 31 Clifton RC. The balance of the cards range from Ex to Ex-Mt (downgraded for centering issues). 1957 Topps Basketball is well known for production quality issues, making the assembling of high-quality sets particularly challenging. This is a solid overall high-grade complete set of this significant basketball issue, with fifty-two cards graded and encapsulated by PSA. The SMR value for just thirty-four of the fifty-two graded cards (not including the one card graded less than EX 5, the eighteen qualified cards, and the twenty-eight ungraded cards) is $4,710. Total: 80 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000++. SOLD FOR $4,148
