1907 Grignon Chicago Cubs Postcard Collection (8)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,666
Collection of eight different cards (out of 16), including two Hall of Famers, from the rare and unusual Grignon Chicago Cubs photographic postcard series issued in 1907. This set was produced to commemorate the Cubs' participation in the 1907 World Series and is one of the most popular baseball postcard issues of the era. Each card pictures a large teddy bear in a baseball pose with a small black-and-white portrait of a Cubs player in an upper corner. The collection is comprised of the following: John Evers (HOF, Gd), Arthur Hofman (Vg-Ex), John Kling (Ex), Orvie Overall (Ex), James Slagle (Vg), Harry Steinfeldt (Vg), Jack Taylor (Vg), and Joe Tinker (HOF, Vg-Ex). All of the cards have never been mailed and have no writing on their traditional postcard reverses. This is a very sharp-looking group of these rare and very distinctive postcards. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Total: 8 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,666
