1929 Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics World Series Programs (2)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $948

Pair of programs issued, respectively, by the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics for the 1929 World Series. 1) 1929 World Series Program at Chicago (Cubs). The colorful cover displays photos of each club's manager, Joe McCarthy of the Cubs and Connie Mack of the A's, while the back cover features an illustration of Wrigley Field. The interior pages include portrait photos of members of both clubs, as well as team and league officials. The eight-page program (6 x 9 inches) has not been scored. The preprinted lineups include Hornsby, Cuyler, and Grimm for Chicago and Cochrane, Simmons, and Foxx for Philadelphia. The program displays a vertical center fold (which of course is very common with early World Series programs); it is otherwise in Excellent condition. 2) 1929 World Series Program at Philadelphia (Athletics). The black-and-white cover features portrait images of each club's manager within an illustrated design picturing each team's mascot (elephant and bear cub) and a representation of Shibe Park. The extremely substantial 64-page program features both individual photos and biographies of the A's team members and individual photos of the Cubs players. Neatly scored in pencil for Game 3, which was won by Chicago by a score of 3-1. The covers is partially detached at the bottom staple and there are a number of diagonal creases along the back cover. This is a very attractive overall high-grade example with no center fold, ideal for display and far superior to what is normally found for this program. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Total: 2 programs. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $948
