1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet Rube Waddell (Rookie)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,015
Hall of Famer Rube Waddell in street clothes from the very popular W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set. W600s were issued over a period of many years (1902-1911) by The Sporting Life. Two poses of Waddell were issued during this time: in street clothes (1902) and in uniform (1908). Waddell was one of the era’s greatest pitchers and most irrepressible characters. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1914 at the age of twenty-eight. No major creases (just a single corner crease mentioned for accuracy). Technically in Fair condition due to a few tiny scattered black dots on the front and surface wear on the reverse from removal from a photo-album page designed with strips of very light adhesive. While modest in technical grade, this is still an extremely attractive W600 card with a bright and crisp portrait. W600 Sporting Life cabinet cards were available only by mail and they are universally recognized as among the most substantial and highest-quality baseball-card sets ever issued. This card presents a unique opportunity to acquire a very attractive low-grade example of one of Rube Waddell’s rarest and most striking cards from one of the most desirable baseball-card sets of the era. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,015
