1960 Leaf Complete Set (146) Including Rare Hal Smith "Team Blackened Out" Variation

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,528

Complete set of 1960 Leaf, ranging in grade from 35% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint cards) to 65% Ex to Ex-Mt (with a few slightly lesser). Included with the set are two scarce variation cards (#25 Grant error and #58 Smith "Team Blackened Out" back variation). Leaf packaged these unusual glossy black-and-white cards with marbles in an attempt to navigate contract terms with players, which dictated that only Topps could issue cards of modern ballplayers with bubble gum. Forty cards are graded by PSA (except on SGC): Two MINT 9: #20 and 50. Twenty-seven NM-MT 8: #5, 6, 12, 18, 26, 29, 31, 35, 37 Snider, 46, 51, 52, 54, 55, 56, 59, 60, 61, 63, 66, 68, 69 Wilhelm, 87, 92, 100, 116, and 126. Nine NM 7: #4, 23, 34, 38, 41, 44, 83, 120 (SGC NM 84), and 124. One EX-MT+ 6.5: #72. One EX 5: #58 Smith "Team Blackened Out" back variation. Ungraded Keys: #1 Aparicio (Ex), 25 Grant (Error white cap, Vg), 25 Grant (Corrected dark cap, Ex), 27 B. Robinson (Ex-Mt), 125 Anderson (Ex-Mt), 128 Cepeda (Vg-Ex/Ex), 141 Flood (Ex), and 144 Bunning (Ex-Mt). One of the era's most unusual and interesting issues. The SMR value for just the forty PSA-graded cards (not including the 106 ungraded cards) is $1,076. Total: 146 cards (144 cards plus variations of cards #25 and 58). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,528
