1956 Topps Complete Master Set Including All Twelve Team Variations and Both Checklists: #15 PSA Set Registry (354 cards)

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $17,625

The 1956 Topps set has always been one of the most popular sets of the 1950s. Issued in the heart of the decade, the 1956 Topps set includes everyone from Aaron to Williams, all in brilliant, stunning color, and in an exciting horizontal design. Presented is one of the finest master sets of this classic issue ever assembled. All of the 354 cards in this complete master set have been graded by PSA. Included with the set of 340 cards are both unnumbered checklist cards: #1/3 Checklist, #2/4 Checklist, six "dated" team-card variations (Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia), and six "no date, name on left" team-card variations (Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia). The set is comprised of 230 NM 7s, thirteen NM+ 7.5s, 107 NM-MT 8s, and four NM-MT+ 8.5s. Listed on the PSA Set Registry, it is the fifteenth-highest graded set ever assembled, with an average grade of 7.28. As any collector of high-grade 1950s Topps cards knows, assembling a complete set of any 1950s vintage issue in NM 7 or better grade is a daunting challenge, and this is even more the case with 1956 Topps than with many other 1950s issues. The assembly of a set of this high quality is the result of a tremendous amount of time, effort, and patience. Many 1956 Topps cards are particularly challenging to find in high grade, especially due to print lines and centering issues. This is a spectacular set and an extraordinary collecting achievement. The grades for the entire set can easily be accessed online on the PSA Set Registry under "REA Spring 2011." PSA grading composite: Four cards are graded NM-MT+ 8.5: #12, 112, 168, and 299. 107 cards are graded NM-MT 8: including #1 Harridge, 121 Pirates, 125 Minoso, 165 Schoendienst, 250 Doby, 307 Wilhelm, and 1/3 Checklist. Thirteen cards are graded NM+ 7.5: #46, 66, 80, 85c, 92, 132, 162, 231, 249, 254, 260 Reese, 316, and 2/4 Checklist. 230 cards are graded NM 7: including #5 Williams, 10 Spahn, 15 Banks, 20 Kaline, 30 Robinson, 31 Aaron, 33 Clemente, 79 Koufax, 101 Campanella, 107 Mathews, 110 Berra, 113 Rizzuto, 120 Ashburn, 130 Mays, 135 Mantle, 145 Hodges, 150 Snider, 164 Killebrew, 166 Dodgers, 180 Roberts, 181 Martin, 200 Feller, 226 Giants, 240 Ford, 251 Yankees, 292 Aparicio RC, and numerous other Hall of Famers, team cards, etc. This master set was assembled one card at a time by a very dedicated condition-conscious collector over a period of many years, with a concern for all factors, but with a special consideration to overall eye-appeal. This is simply an amazing high-grade complete master set of this classic Topps issue, and is one of the finest we have ever handled. The total SMR value of $23,924 for the set does not account for the tremendous amount of time, energy, and effort that have been invested in its assembly. The fact that the consignor has elected to keep this set together and sell it as a single unit, as opposed to breaking it up into smaller more affordable units, makes this a particularly extraordinary offering. For those who can consider buying a set of this caliber, this set represents a remarkable and unique opportunity. Total: 354 cards (set of 340 including both checklist cards and twelve team variations). Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000+. SOLD FOR $17,625
