1954 Red Heart PSA-Graded Complete Set: #12 PSA Set Registry (8.03 GPA)

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $9,400

Extraordinary ultra high-grade complete set of 1954 Red Heart Dog Food. This is the finest set of Red Hearts we have ever had the privilege of offering. Though comprised of only 33 cards, the set features many of the greatest stars of the early 1950s, including Mantle, Musial, Snider, Ashburn, Spahn, and Fox. This is a remarkable set. The entire set of 33 cards has been graded and encapsulated by PSA, with 31 cards grading PSA NM-MT 8, and two cards (Kuenn and Pierce) grading PSA MINT 9. This set is listed on the PSA Set Registry under "REA Auction Spring 2011." It is the twelfth-highest graded set ever assembled. As any collector of high-grade early 1950s cards knows, the assembly of any entire 1950s set, with every card across the board in PSA NM-MT 8 (or better) condition, is extremely challenging and extraordinary. Red Hearts have always been a favorite with collectors. Many consider Red Hearts to be one of the most attractive sets ever issued. The distinctive artwork and the unusual product with which they were issued both contribute to making Red Hearts one of the 1950s' most noteworthy sets. No essay on baseball cards and how they were issued is complete without at least a mention of Red Heart Dog Food. This is an absolutely stunning high-grade PSA-graded complete set of one of card collecting's most distinctive and popular issues. The SMR value for the individual cards exceeds $10,000. Total: 33 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $6,000/$8,000+. SOLD FOR $9,400
